Stop Winter Weeds Now With Pre-Emergent
Timing is everything – especially when it comes to pre-emergent. These products work by addressing the weeds in the ground before they even have a chance to germinate. This is why it’s so important to apply them at the right time. Your 3rd pre-emergent application should be made at the end of August/first of September for maximum effectiveness. You can put it out later, but the level of control is reduced as some weeds have already germinated. These can then be controlled with a post-emergent spray.
Hi-Yield’s Turf & Ornament Weed & Grass Stopper with Dimension will control cool-season grassy weeds – most notably poa annua. Fertilome’s Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery will prevent clover, dandelion, henbit & other broadleafed cool-season weeds.
Both products should be spread with a broadcast spreader and watered in. You can apply both products the same day, but you’ll want to do them sequentially, not mixed together.
Note: if you plan to over-seed in the next 90 days or so, you’ll want to skip this application of pre-emergent.
