Summer Feeding

Now is the time for your second fertilizer application. Providing nutrients now will help your lawn get through the stress of the heat of the summer. You can use a broadcast spreader to apply your fertilizer on a freshly mowed lawn and then water it in. If you can time your application just before a rain that works too!

Depending on your soil type we have 2 go-to traditional, slow-release fertilizers we recommend. The slow release coating on these allows the nutrients to release slowly over time to prevent burning and longer lasting results.
• 21-7-14 slow release is recommended for sandy soils. The application rate is 10 lbs per 1,000 square feet, it comes in a 50 lb bag.
• 16-20-00 slow release is recommended for clay soils. The application rate is 10 lbs per 1,000 square feet, it comes in a 50 lb bag.
Looking for an organic option? The MicroLife Multi-Purpose 6-2-4 is a fantastic, all-purpose fertilizer. It is a proven performer for all turfgrasses, ornamentals, perennials, trees, flowers & vegetables. This formula provides over 100 nutrients, minerals and vitamins. It is 100% slow release and will not burn. For lawns spread 15-20 lbs per 1,000 square feet.

Insect Control

As you work to build the health of your soil you may begin to notice fewer and fewer pests in your yard, but it’s a long process. To help control insects we recommend Hi-Yield Turf Ranger as a good broad-spectrum option. Fertilome’s NaturalGuard Lawn Shield is our go-to organic option – it’s cedar oil based and creates an irritant scent barrier to keep pests away.
